Shoot. Well, maybe it’s a falcon. I don’t know, either. He was a welcome visitor, that’s for sure. He was facing the house and I was behind the blinds and created a peep hole for myself. I had to hurry, for he did not stay long.
Beautiful photographs, you must have had very steady hands to make the most of that opportunity.
Sadly I’ve no idea what kind of hawk it is. In silhouette it reminds me of The Maltese Falcon, although most things in life tend to remind me of movies.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
I’m leaning more toward Ptarmigan (Falcon) with its hooked upper beak. Search some Bird Watching sites and re post with the photos attached. I’m sure you’d get a more confident answer quickly!
By golly you are right, Malcolm! The verdict of “those in the know” think I had a falcon for a visitor. I will definitely check out your book. Thanks 🙂
Those shots are pretty cool. How did you get both in front and behind him without scaring it off?
And, sadly, never been a birder. No idea.

Not like the MN or IL, that’s for sure. It’s 20s at night and 60 during the day. Sunshine and no snow. Keep covered 🙂

🙂 That’s three friends now that say falcon. I like the idea of a real Maltese Falcon on my ledge….
