“The Evolution of the Femme Fatale” was a lot of fun to host. Thanks again, Bill, at The Cinema Penitentiary Diaries for being November’s featured conversation starter. What, you missed it? No worries. I’d love to know what you think. Read it HERE.
December’s topic is director Ang Lee and his films.
“I did a women’s movie, and I’m not a woman. I did a gay movie, and I’m not gay. I learned as I went along.”
What do you do?
Commit to viewing or revisiting one of his films and join in the discussion on December 13. My guest movie buff and conversation starter is STU, over at Popcorn Nights.
No poster for ‘Ride With The Devil’? One of my favourite US Civil War films, with some great performances and atmosphere in there too. Lee can be hit and miss, but ‘Crouching Tiger’ and ‘Lust,Caution’ are standouts too.
Looking forward to this one, Cindy. I will be in the corner of ‘Ride…’
Best wishes, Pete.

Not a problem! I hope you catch one you’ve not seen (‘Lust,Caution’ I’ve not seen) or revisit. Your opinion is important.

My favorite is also “Ride with the Devil,” so I hope to join a discussion with Pete on that one. also I will try to keep my opinions on Crouching Tiger and Lust Caution to myself.

After reading Bill’s comment my Crouching Tiger DVD will probably be remaining unwatched. Instead I’ll revisit The Criterion Collection release of Ride with the Devil and look forward to Bill and Pete’s discussion.

I remember Sense & Sensibility by heart so no need to revisit that one, ahah. I first knew of Ang Lee when I saw his film The Wedding Banquet which also dealt with homosexuality.

That’s one I have not seen. I was hoping you would give your two cents about S & S. 🙂

Ride with the Devil is really underrated, I love Crouching Tiger, but keep returning to The Ice Storm as Lee’s best film.
