A recent snowstorm last Friday fell in Flagstaff. Accumulations reached a record-breaking 14 feet (4.3 meters). 60 miles away, up in the elevated mining town of Jerome, I took a picture of the San Francisco Peaks. I have never seen them completely covered.
I remember crossing Arizona on tour to meet with my sister in law who was living in Tempe at the time before heading by car to Washington DC for meetings. It was high summer and we had no air-conditioning in the car so it was stifling. What a pleasure it was to visit Flagstaff where it was greener and seemed to be a welcome cool change. We could have used that snow fall at that time. π

What a great story, Ian. Thank you π

Gorgeous photo! The great news is that the recent storms have packed the mountains with snow, which as you know is our spring and summer drinking water!

Yes! The snow was desperately for California’s. It blew to us and we needed it, too.

The person above is right on the money: The more snow in the mountains, the better. Nice photo. Take care. Neil S.

It is a vision of hope. The SW has been drought stricken. Thank you for commenting, Neil.

I haven’t paid attention, but I wonder what the snowpack looks like in Colorado. Isn’t that the source of some of Arizona’s water?

Yesiree. It is all connected. Colorado got dumped on, too! A huge blessing.

Any mention of Flagstaff always puts the song ‘Route 66’ into my head immediately.
“Flagsataff Arizona, don’t forget Winona”.
As a young teenager in London, I always tried to imagine what those places looked like. Lovely photo of marvellous scenery, dear Cindy.
Best wishes, Pete. x

Thanks, Pete. Sorry to say, route 66 has more gray, dry, flat unremarkable features with an occasional pretty view. Once is enough. Flagg is beautiful. The route 66 is known for the food in dives along the way. Not so much the view.

That is a beautiful photograph but I’m afraid your metric conversions are a little off course. 14 inches is 35 centimetres, and 4.3 metres would be 14 feet which is quite a depth of snow!

Yes, dear friend. 14 feet! That’s why it was a record. π
